Student Ministries of South Baptist Church

Our Awana ministry exists to help build lasting foundations of faith in the hearts and lives of our children. Each night includes a teaching lesson from God’s Word, singing, memory verses, and fun games.
Awana clubs meet weekly every Wednesday night (during the school year) from 6:30 – 8:00 pm. Awana is open to all children preschool – 5th grade.
Our Youth group ministry exists to help reach the youth of our community with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to help equip them to walk with Jesus faithfully in the world where they live.
Youth group meets every Wednesday night (during the school year) from 6:30 – 8:00 pm. Each meeting consists of an interactive lesson from the Bible, group discussions, games and fun with other students.
Our Youth group also participates with Truth 4 Youth throughout the year as they host exciting events for churches in the Mid-Michigan area.
The South Baptist Church Student Ministry offers 2 weekly programs  that take place at the same time on Wednesday nights: Awana (K-5th grade) and Youth Group (6th -12th grade). Each night unless otherwise noted will run from 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm. We will not run our  programs on any day that school is not in session, such as holidays or snow days.  We require each student attending to have a parent or guardian fill out the Student Registration Form. This will give us emergency contact information and serve as permission to allow your child to attend and permission to have the child transported with our church van if needed. A completed registration form will be required for any student attending our Student ministries.
NOTE: This year we will be instituting a check-in/check-out program for the safety of the children in our care. Please make sure the children (K-5th Grade) are checked-in by the parents or guardian and checked-out by the same parent or guardian or other previously authorized person. Students in the youth group will check themselves “in” and “out” each night in the youth room, but will not be released from the main sanctuary of the church until a parent or guardian has arrived to pick them up, or when the church van is leaving to take students home. Students can be checked in 15 minutes prior to the start of each night and parents should arrive at the church to pick up their students no later than 15 minutes after the conclusion of the event, unless other arrangements have been made. Students that ride the van will be checked in and out by the van driver. All students on the van must both be picked up and dropped off using the van unless previous arrangements have been made. We are glad to be able to provide our church van for those children that otherwise might not be able to attend. To help things run smooth this year, students riding the van please note the following:
  • Select the checkbox on the form to give permission and register for the van schedule.
  • Have your children ready by 5:45 PM. The van will be by sometime between 5:45 and 6:20.
  • The children will be dropped off between 8:10 to 8:45.
  • If your child is a regular van rider, then no call is necessary to be picked up on a weekly basis, but if your child is not coming on a particular night then please call the church or Frank Davenport’s cell phone (or text) and leave a message no later than 5:00 PM Wednesday evening. 989-893-3977 (church number) 989-327-3259 (Frank Davenport’s cell phone)
Periodically throughout the school year Youth Group will host an extra activity either at the church or at a different destination. In advance of these activities we will send home information flyers with all of the necessary information.
All of our student ministries workers are individuals who have undergone local and federal background checks and have been approved by our church leadership. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you have out our Student Ministries.
